The Saugeen Nation Gravel and Hills of Arran 70 Km
Distance: 70Km / 43.5 Mi
Elevation: 525 M / 1732 Ft
Terrain: 77% Gravel / 23% Paved
Wide open Gravel and rolling hills as far as the eye can see, that’s what this one is all about. You’ll start off with a brief visit to our neighboring First Nation’s Saugeen Reserve 29, where the Gravel is wide open and as peaceful as it gets. You’ll spend a brief few moments of respite on pavement and then head east into seemingly mellow gravel… Don’t be fooled, as your ride is about to get very real with the roller coaster that is Elsinore Rd. Turn right on to Elsinore from Maryville Lake Rd and you’ll be presented with your first of many climbs of the day. Once you’ve completed your battle with Elsinore Rd, you’ll cross On-21 and start with the rolling hills of Arran. This is a beautiful area and as you get further into Arran, you’ll be greeted by peaceful Arran Lake to the west. Once you’ve passed through Arran, you’ll briefly pass through some epic farm country where there’s a fair chance you’ll see some of our Mennonite neighbors traveling by horse and buggy. Once you’ve safely crossed Bruce 3, you’ll be on River Rd which is a local favorite as it travels along the Saugeen River for much of the length of the road. After you’ve completed River Rd, you’ll head toward the rail trail for a nice and quiet return to Southampton.
